Thai airline to take off next month

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

It has been confirmed that a new airline will start offering new flights to Thailand at the start of next month.

Crystal Thai Airlines (CTA) is set to introduce flights from Bangkok to Incheon and Muan in South Korea on February 3rd.

The airline, which plans to become Thailand’s third largest carrier, has confirmed that the new service will operate twice-weekly and will meet growing demand from travellers in both countries.

Other possible destinations in the future include flights to Mumbai and Cochin in India as well as Dubai and Phuket in Thailand.

It is understood that the maiden flights for CTA will make use of an Airbus A320 with a total of 174 seats.

The airline is also planning to expand its fleet with the addition of a second A320 and an A330-200 before the end of 2011.

Last month, CTA confirmed that training of flight crew staff is underway.

Qatar Airways has revealed that it will add six new routes to its network, including offering more flights to Thailand.

Travellers will be able to take advantage of daily flights to Phuket from the carrier from October 11th.

Phuket is the first of the new destinations to be added to the network, with the other five services to be rolled out over the following four months.

In addition to Phuket, Qatar Airways will also offer new flights to Hanoi, Nice, Bucharest, Budapest and Brussels.

Akbar Al Baker, the company’s chief executive officer, explained that these destinations “represent markets underserved so these are excellent opportunities for us to tap into”.

Last month, the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2010 saw Qatar Airways placed among the top three carriers in the world.

The organisation also picked up the prize for the world’s best business class service and the staff service excellence award for the Middle East.
